"Cold Mountain" was very good! Renee Zellwegger stole the movie and I am changing my prediction (she now Should and Will win the GG) The direction was great, the acting started off a bit rough, but improved as the film progressed (The accents were good enough, but some of the dialogue near the beginning was rough...i.e. the scene on the porch) Over all a great film that I can't imagine anyone saying was bad. You don't have to think it's the greatest film ever, but it certainly will stand-up to scrutiny. I recommend it.

Saw the movie "Paycheck" with Ben Affleck. It was the only thing showing at the time I was able to go, and I usually don't select the film I see without planning it first, so I guess that may have been part of the problem. I don't really know how to react. I thought it was a really cool idea, and the film was nicely made, but I can't say it "wowed" me. I really can't pin-point what it was about it that bothered me. As far as action-sequences go, it was good. I don't have any hang-ups with the actors, and I was invested in the story, but something was missing...oh well, they can't all be winners...
I will try to see "Cold Mountain" Tonight

"The Simpsons" is consistently the best, funniest show on TV BAR NONE. Period.

The President's speech last night should have been called "The State of Their Union" address. The first half was about how wonderful things in Afganistan & Iraq are now that we have gone in. That's just great. For them. I guess I wouldn't be so upset if I had a good job. I had an opportunity but due to budget cuts, the school that I could have been working for didn't have the money to continue the position. Now why are the budgets so tight? There were over 1000 new jobs created in December (the Bush Admin. was projecting 100,000 - 150,000 new jobs, just a bit south of their prediction) and things are getting better for the stock market (slowly) so, IF you have stocks (which I don't) you might be feeling a bit better. Unfortunately, I have neither stocks nor a good feeling.
I am still doing the adkins thing, one week and three days...don't know how much I've lost yet, will wait until Monday to weigh in...

I thought this was cool! Hope you enjoy the whimsy:

The Hokey Pokey, by William Shakespeare:

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke - banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

- Jeff Brechlin, of Potomac Falls, Va., winner of
a Washington Post contest to write a series of
instructions in the style of a famous writer.
We started the Adkins Diet again this past Monday, Jan 12th. Last year I lost nearly 60 pounds on it, and since moving back, I haven't been able to avoid the awesome J&J's Pizza Shack!!! Anyway, I have gotten through the cravings and I feel much better since yesterday. Another 50-60 lbs. and I'll be much better off!! My energy is up and I am in a much better mood!

My wife and I saw "Big Fish" on Thursday, and we both loved it!! Extremely visual and unique, beautifully filmed and very well cast! Mr Mcgregor & Mr. Finney are both fantastic and look so much alike, but the two female leads similarities (Ms. Lange & Lohman) are uncanny!!!! See this film. It is a fantasy, and a sweet film. I plan on seeing another film this week. Possibly "Along Came Polly." We'll see.

My Wife & I saw "Something's Gotta Give" w/ Jack Nicholson, etc. and it was funny, and sweet, and I enjoyed it, but it was a bit long for me (this coming from the guy who sat through ALL THREE LOTR movies in the theater in one day!!!) But I would recommend it.

Forgot how funny "Ab-Fab" was and was reminded while watching re-runs on Oxygen...
Finished watching the second season of "The Simpsons" on DVD, started the first disc of the Thrid season...consistently the most well written and funniest show on TV.

Continue to research information on all the candidated for the dems, still like Wes Clark, Dean is second, but hoping Nader runs again...I stand by my decision in 2000. I vote my conscience, not for parties.

Saw "Bad Santa" w/ BB Thornton. HILARIOUS but oh, so wrong... Please be advised, do not expect a holiday movie!

Happy New Year. I fell asleep at 11:00pm since I had to work in the morning. What a way to start the new year...
